We are currently monitoring 3 proposals
26/10/97/FU - Ash Grove, change of use and extension to current
Social Club for extensive student flats development
We have opposed this proposal in a number of forms from it's onset,
but it has recently been approved by the Council Planning committee
and may now proceed.
26/169/97/FU - Royal Park Road, change of use to Taxi rank and development of scrapyard. This application has been submitted in a number of forms and we are monitoring it's progress. The council planning committee will make no decision until more detailed plans are available.
26/268/97/FU - Brudenell Road, Saj's Barbers Shop, application for change of usage and further development. We have written in support of this application given the success and amenity value of this local business.
29/9/97
A proposal is currently under consideration by the Council's education committee to close Royal Park Primary School, and as part of that process, a consultation process has begun. There are many good reasons for keeping the school open, and S.H.C.A. has made representations to local Councillors and Harold Best M.P. for the preservation of the school, and has received a reply from Harold Best M.P. expressing vociferous support for the school's continuation. The campaign is being fought on many fronts, and a petition is growing week by week. September is the crucial month for the consultation process, and the Education committee will consider a report on the consultation in October.
17/10/97
The council have withdrawn proposals to close Royal Park Primary School after concerted pressure by teachers, governers, parents, past pupils, associations and the public at large in the form of letters, petitions and the very well attended meeting at Royal Park School in September. A great victory!
